Tinker v. Des Moines (1969)

In this court case, several kids decided to wear black armbands in school to protest the Vietnam war. The time was near Christmas and they wanted to see their fathers, who were fighting in the war. They were suspended  because the school didn't want them to protest the war. The kids sued the school for restricting their freedom of speech and won in the supreme court 7:2. As a result, kids today have more freedom of expression. We can wear and protest more things in school as long as it doesn't become a distraction. It has impacted me because I now have a right to protest things that I believe are wrong, even in school. I am glad we are protected by the constitution in school because many places in the world don't believe children should have rights.

I'm an only child, spoiled rotten.
Conflicted.  What's the meaning of life?
Gifts, Gifts, Gifts and more Gifts.
Hate computers; but good with them.
Old baseball cards; I'm sports obsessed.

Ups and Downs of Being Gifted

Being gifted is interesting.  On one side you get more respect.  You also get treated like a responsible person. In addition, you often are exceptional in a field, which makes carer path.   Finally you can get additional help from your teachers because they want you to do well.
On the other side, the adults expect a lot from you.  They pressure you to get good grades.  Finally, there is a lot of sterio typing about gifted people being geeks.  The gifted kids often get teased.  Children react to stress in a number of ways, and their reactions can include behaviors such as increasing moody or withdrawn behavior.  You also can become asynchronous, which means developing at diffrent rates.  Luckly this has never applied to me.  I have developed at a faster rate than most people, but my body developed with my emotions.   Overall I love being gifted.

Me!

Hey, I'm Brandan, and I am in 8th grade.  My favorite subject is science.  My favorite thing to learn about is Football.  In my free time I like to play tennis, through the football around, and play video games.  When I'm older, I want to either play tennis or football.  If I am unable to do that, I want to start a successful business.  I' m happy when I get lucky or if the Jets win.
